Mini-Airfix AFV diorama competition, Singapore June 2021
Most modellers are familiar with the extensive Airfix 1:76 AFV range, but not many are aware and tried the Airfix 1:35 AFV range (which many differentiate with the 1:32 range). This event was announced earlier at the start of this year, but many modellers only started the build in the last 2 months. As diorama are one of the more difficult display to build, with train layout being the most complex, we kept an open mind on what to expect. We always knew that there was quite a strong following in AFVs. On final count, 9 people completed their dioramas and entered. Quite a few people had completed their entries a week before, but even before that, we had seen the incredible and fast progress of some of the models. We consider the water in any diorama requiring a great deal of effort, then there are the small details like plants, weathering, and equipment (canvases, equipment accessories, ammunition, etc). When deciding on the winners, it was very close as the quality and detail of the entries were excellent. In the end, the winners were: 1st Prize TAN Chuan-Jin (American tank looking for souvenirs from the German tank) : he is also Singapore’s speaker of parliament 2nd Prize Suresh Nathan (German tank surrendering to the Russians) 3rd Prize. Mick Stephen (FrankenTiger tank in a museum) Once again, we thank all the participants and judges (EE Keok Lye, Mat Irvine, and Jonathan KUA) for their support and time.
